COMPACT ROM

Compacting deduplicates the audio data and drops unused bytes, then re-addresses the whole ROM. The sound is unchanged.

TSI EDIT

TSI S14001A

TSI EDIT is a browser-based ROM editor for the TSI S14001A speech synthesizer chip, used in devices from the 70's and 80's, including arcade games, notably pinball machines.

INCLUDED ROMS

The bundled ROM sets are speech data from the Stern Electronics VSU-100 and VSU-1000 speech boards, used in pinball machines including Flight 2000 and Catacomb, and in the arcade game Berzerk.

HOW TO USE

  • Load a built-in ROM from the selector, or upload your own U9 / U10 (VSU-100) chip binaries
  • Select a word from the list to view its waveform
  • Click a phone cell to edit its waveform delta data and playback flags
  • Copy phones or words from one ROM into another using the copy picker
  • Compact the ROM to deduplicate audio and reclaim unused space
  • Download your ROM as U9 / U10 (VSU-100) chip binaries when done
  • Playback rates are based on clock settings on the VSU-100

STORAGE

Uploaded ROMs and word name edits are saved in your browser's local storage. They persist across page refreshes but are device-local. Download your ROM to make sure your work is saved.

RESET

This will permanently clear all uploaded ROMs and custom word name changes stored in your browser. This cannot be undone.
